End poverty by 2015. This is the historic promise 189 world leaders made at the
United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000 when they agreed to meet the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs). The United Nations Millennium Campaign supports and inspires
people from around the world to take action in support of the MDGs.

A new world record was set during October 17-19 when over 116 million people stood up worldwide against poverty and for the Millennium Development Goals. Asia had the highest numbers of 73 million, of which 14 million were from India and another 13 million from Bangladesh.

The United Nations Millennium Campaign's global Stand Up and Take Action programme this year enthused many in India to come together and demand action on MDGs. Several students in the northern and southern states signed petitions and memorandums, calling upon the government for reforms in education.

Ahead of tomorrow's G-20 economic summit in Washington, the UN Millennium Campaign has called on the world leaders to commit a bailout package of $300 billion to the world's poorer nations. The demand seeks to help them cope with shocks of the global financial crisis and achieve the MDGs.

Centre for Legislative Research and Advocacy’s latest publication Handbook for Parliamentarians on the MDGs details existing policy on MDGs in India and provides suggestions for future direction and strategy. The book aims to sensitise public leadership on these goals to ensure their time bound delivery.
