Education is the backbone of national development and is widely accepted as an instrument of social change. India has been an active partner in the worldwide movement for education for All that began in 1990 in Jomtien followed by Millennium development goals. The important issues which need immediate attention to achieve MDG targets in Education are as follow.

18-11-2008 Hundreds of students, teachers and activists marched in a recent nationwide rally in India organised by the human rights body to demand access to safe education. The event was part of its ongoing campaign to ensure appropriate legal frameworks for creating a violence-free environment for girls in schools.

18-11-2008 A study done in Delhi's resettlement colonies in 200 schools shows that deworming programmes can be an effective health intervention in improving student participation in India. Also claimed to be highly cost-effective, these findings were first revealed in a similar study in Kenya's primary schools.

Yet he notes the formation of a group to draft a national policy on ICT in school education has more members from IT majors – Intel and Microsoft – than educationists.
