The two-week climate change talks kicked off on December 1 in the Polish city, aiming for a global vision on a new climate change regime post Kyoto Protocol. In the current circumstances, delegates will also focus on how climate change policies can be linked to economic recovery.

It has come as a huge relief for the Hamid Karzai government in Afghanistan that neighbouring Iran has decided to suspend large-scale expulsions of illegal refugees until March next year. There are approximately 2.5 million Afghans, majority of them illegally, living in Iran.

Despite notions of excess funds for AIDS, the $10 billion in resources worldwide fell short last year. Bertil Lindblad, director, UNAIDS Office in New York says the epidemic is running strong and ahead of the global response, which for the first time, is showing results in treatment and prevention.
