The ongoing global economic crisis is going to increase unemployment worldwide. Director-General of ILO says it is about time that all governments of the world work in a coordinated manner to combat this phenomenon of joblessness.

A new world record was set during October 17-19 when over 116 million people stood up worldwide against poverty and for the Millennium Development Goals. Asia had the highest numbers of 73 million, of which 14 million were from India and another 13 million from Bangladesh.

Indo-US agriculture deal known as Knowledge Initiative on Agriculture announced three years ago is being used to open up India's agriculture market to American MNCs. US agri-giants Monsanto, Cargill and Archer Daniels Midland now find it inadequate and want a complete overhaul of the sector.

Cyclone-hit Myanmar monasteries need repair

Cyclone Nargis had destroyed hundreds of monasteries that played an important social, cultural, educational and religious role in Myanmar. Many of them are in urgent need of repair and other assistance so as to make these institutions resume their work.
