South Asia, a potential hotspot for global warming, is open to social vulnerability as future projections reveal a possible intensification of social factors and forces that create inequitable exposure to the risks and damages of climate change.

The challenge of the South is now to balance the demands for climate change mitigation and meet its development needs in the region by linking development and environment issues at this critical time.

According to a German insurance company, climate change has boosted the destructive power of natural disasters, causing Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar, earthquakes in Pakistan and floods in India.

02-01-2009 The Indian Space Research Organisation will launch a satellite to study the tropical atmosphere and its energy and hydrological cycles at the end of 2009. Jointly engineered by the French space agency CNES, the satellite data on weather modulates will be shared by the two countries.
